Selling Before the Crash

My wife, Wendy, and I had a series of three prophetic dreams in January 2012. As the Lord gave us the interpretation over the coming weeks, the question arose, “What do we do with these insights?” In time, wisdom came for is to act on them personally. This story is about one of those dreams.

In the first week of January, discussions began about selling a cottage we owned north of Toronto, Canada. It had been listed with a real estate agent four years earlier, believing that our good Christian stewardship would be rewarded with a quick sale and considerable profit. We soon learned that forgetting to pray before acting would tarnish our results. It took fourteen months of frustration and disappointment to realize the Lord’s blessing was missing. Not only that, but He later chastised me for not asking His permission to sell first. We found ourselves in a ditch, rather than on God’s path for our life.

Then, in late January, the Lord gave a dream and interpretation.

Wendy’s Dream: We were at the cottage. It was warm and there were leaves on the trees. We heard a low rumbling sound, went outside, and then down to the dock. Over the tree line, across the bay there appeared a huge jetliner, which was obviously in distress. Air France was written in large letters on the side. Suddenly the jet veered to the left and disappeared behind the trees, crashing out of sight. There was a huge fireball. As horrified as we were, I remember thinking that we were so thankful the jet hadn’t veered to the right, because it would have crashed where we were standing.

Alan’s Interpretation: Crashes in prophetic terms generally point to economic or stock market crashes. The jet is a carrier of people, and can signify the carrying of wealth and hope, but also greed. The Air France logo on the airliner represents the country of France, and the balmy weather gives an indication of when this event may occur. For the plane to come down in our neighbourhood but not hit our cottage would point to there being negative reverberations without total destruction, as a result of God’s protection. So, we might interpret the whole image to say that the country of France will have an economic and stock market crash, which has a negative but not destructive effect on the North American economy by God’s grace, in a summer or early fall season.

A few months after the Lord gave this dream and interpretation, two things happened. First, on a winter holiday drive that took us past Atlanta airport enroute to Florida, an airliner was landing at ninety degrees to the interstate that we were on, crossing our path. A few hundred feet above the road on final approach, the jet filled our windscreen with the words “Air France” emblazed on the fuselage. That moment was a ridiculously funny affirmation, and so like our Father. With encouragement like that, it is difficult to get it wrong.

The second thing occurred during our cottage sale prayer time, when the Lord directed us to act in either 2012 or 2014. He said that there would be few buyers of recreational properties in our cottage country region of Central Ontario, Canada in 2013. So, we decided to sell in 2012.

Psalm 111:10 says The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdon; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

In May, with God’s help and grace, the cottage was listed on the market. It sold in eleven days to the first family who saw it, at full asking price. Some real estate agents had informed us that typically it takes six to eighteen months to sell recreation properties in our region. As exciting as it was to see the results of God’s favour, we were more pleased to be following the Lord’s direction and timing that had been received during our prayer time. In that sense, we can all influence the Father’s blessing in our lives.

For the reader, the Air France dream may be a warning for you, as it was for us – not driven by fear of loss, but instead, seeking the Lord to see if He directs you to take action of your own. It is my hope to put the jetliner in trouble on your radar screen.

Romans 12:2 says Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good and pleasing perfect will.

Every day, the headlines scream about the economic turmoil in Greece, Spain, Portugal, and Italy. You may have read that many believe that there will be a devastating domino effect in other parts of the world if one of those financially weak countries fails. In the Air France dream, it wasn’t obvious why the jet was in distress before it crashed. I believe that there is a similar parallel in the French economy and financial system, and that information hidden in the country of France will soon be uncovered.

This insight feels like one prophetic jigsaw puzzle piece in a ten-thousand piece plan that God is revealing. In the Lord’s words to me, “Is it any wonder that you can’t see the whole picture?” 1 Corinthians 13:12 reminds us “We see in part and we understand in part“. It is my understanding that France’s financial system is currently in distress. The airliner is losing altitude. If that is true, what might it mean for North America?

If a financial failure in Greece, Spain, Portugal, or Italy turns into a crash of confidence, it is my belief that France will be a major recipient of the domino effect. For that country, it will feel like a pressure wave from an atomic explosion. The airliner crashing in a fireball represents significant loss of wealth and hope in that country.

Financial chaos for the French could mean that United States and Canada are tipped more easily into recession. If the event happens soon, economic dissatisfaction by voters could rise in such a way that it affects the political outcome in America in the November 2012 elections. Since the rest of the puzzle picture isn’t clear, each should pray to know what steps, if any, the Lord would lead you to take.

Proverbs 3:5 says Trust the Lord with all of your heart, and lean not to your own understanding.

I know that for my family, our Father provided a detailed plan that was profitable and His best for our circumstances. That is our hope and prayer for you and your family, as well; that He gives you wisdom of your own in His master plan, and the grace, courage, and determination to follow its meaning.

It is also true that God’s desire is for us to be interdependent on each other. As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another (Proverbs 27:17). If you receive clarity from the Lord concerning current world financial turmoil, perhaps He will lead you to share the insight of your puzzle piece with others.
